Adult Acne’s Physiological and Mental Impacts

Despite the association of acne to puberty, it is a fact that adults too experience breakouts. In fact, acne can occur at any age. Teenagers may statistically make up the largest percentage of acne sufferers, but this does not mean that adults cannot suffer from breakouts. Women, more especially, are susceptible to adult acne. Men can be victims too but more women actually suffer because of a number of variables. According to a recent American study, adult acne is on the rise. But the reason to this can be just between two things: it could be that the number of adult acne is actually on the rise, or it is just that more and more people are asking for help to treat their skin.

What is true is that no one in their normal state actually wants to have pimples and zits. Clear skin is always desired. As much as possible, there should be zero zits on one’s skin.

Acne affects not only a person’s physiological state, but could also have a considerable impact on one’s mental state: low confidence level and feeling uncomfortable in one’s own skin. These repercussions can easily cross over to how a person performs in the real world, which almost always pertains to a professional life. Acne will still have an impact on a person’s life whether or not the breakouts had not ceased from the time she first had them while in puberty. But a person can fight this off. Consulting a dermatologist may just be the solution to abate the problem, if not eliminate it altogether. There are treatments that are topical, and there are treatments that are needed to be taken orally. It should be taken in consideration that even if there are over the counter treatments for acne, not all treatments will have the same effect on people. A treatment that works for one person might not work for another, so it is best to keep track on how a treatment affects the skin.

The notion that eating French fries or peanuts will cause acne is still being held as a fact by many people, which is not true. There are a lot of variables when it comes to acne breakouts. Fluctuating hormones in adults is a real reason among others why they get blemishes, which is also why pregnant or menopausal women have a greater tendency to get adult acne.

At the heart of this, it does pay to be aware if the person is serious about treating their acne. Acne may be irritating and annoying, but a person who has no knowledge about proper treatments can only make matters worse. People like that usually over wash, harshly scrub, or pick and squeeze out the pimple. Rest assured dermatologists are becoming more and more aware that adult acne is a real concern. If you are having problems with your skin because of adult acne, it is best to consult a dermatologist right away. On the other hand, it won’t hurt you if you apply treatment that has been effective for you in the past. Just take note of its effectiveness. If it doesn’t work anymore, it may be time to seek expert help.
